Week of August 28

Reading

We are reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and made our own coconut tree.  We practiced coloring the coconut tree the school way, filling in the whole picture, coloring in the lines and using colors that make sense.   We got our scissors and cut out our coconut tree. We know that scissors cut paper only and that we cut away from our bodies.  Next, we got glue sticks and glued our trees down.  After that we used liquid glue to glue coconuts on our tree.  Last we found the letters in our name and glued them on our tree.

Writing

In writing we worked on a book, The One and Only Me!

Math

During math this week we explored some of our fun math manipulatives and games!
We played some number matching games, some patterning games, we played with some 3D shapes, and number puzzles, too.

Social Centers

At social centers we are working on using kind words to ask friends for toys or to play with us.

We had such a great first couple of days!

We read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and made our own kissing hands to feel our families love while we are at school!

We also talked about how we love our families and care about them all day long.

We are also working on learning classroom routines and Shepared expectations.  We are practicing using a level 0 voice (no talking), using walking feet in a line, and keeping our hands by our sides when we are in the hallway.  We are working on actively listening and thinking about what the speaker is saying.  Please talk with your child about how important it is to listen to adults at school and follow their directions.

Moving Schools is HARD!

This is my first year at Shepard! I taught at Two Mile Prairie for 6 years and boy did I accumulate a lot of stuff!! When I came to school the first day, there was a mountain of boxes in the middle of the classroom floor.  I was a little overwhelmed, but quickly got to work.  Luckily I had help from my husband, sister, and best friend later that week.  Here are a few pictures of the progress (after a couple of days of hard work)...

And here it is days later, ready for open house!
